
Hooked on Fishing
The Hooked on Fishing program educates youth about fishing and aquatic resources. Classes are typically held on Saturdays from May to June, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Highland Glen Park. Cost is $30 for residents or $35 for non-residents, which includes bait, tackle, and a t-shirt. A fishing pole will not be provided, so plan to bring your own. Class is limited to 30 participants, ages 6 years old and over. Parents are more than welcome to attend and participate with the class (no registration required for adults). Fishing Tournament
Highland City invites residents of all ages to join us for the Fishing Tournament on Friday, June 7th, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Highland Glen Pond. In celebration of Utah’s Free Fishing Day, no license is required to participate. The event features exciting prizes—including a brand-new fishing kayak for first place—plus raffle drawings, food trucks, a DJ, and more. It’s a great chance to enjoy the outdoors and make memories with family and friends. Register here.
Fishing Instructor Applications Closed for 2025
Do you like fishing? Do you want to share your love of fishing with young people? Consider becoming a Highland City Hooked on Fishing instructor with Highland City and the Division of Wildlife Resources! Youth fishing classes are held once a week for six weeks. 7 adult volunteers are needed to teach the class. Two or three volunteers will be "teamed up" with a group of 10 youth. You will receive an email with information for the required background check.
The program is part of DWR’s Community Fishing Program. Dedicated Hunter hours may be earned for those participating in the Dedicated Hunter program. Classes are held on Saturdays May 3rd - June 7th, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Highland Glen Park (4800 W/Cedar Hills Drive, west of Lone Peak High School in Highland). Mandatory Instructor Training: Wednesday, April 30th at 6:30 p.m. at Highland City Hall (5400 W Civic Center Drive, Highland UT, 84003). Please register online so we can order your volunteer t-shirt.
